Take A Penny

Take a penny
Watch it fall
Let it clang
against the wall

Take a string
Watch it fall
Let it brush
against the wall

Take my body
Watch it fall
Let it melt
into the wall

  1. The parallel structure and rhyme of this poem work really well. Even though the rhyme and rhythm make it seem light hearted, it has a powerful kick at the end. I almost think this should be titled something like "Wallflower" or "Shadow".

  2. Actually, I like the name "Take a Penny". It shows the character and the structure of the poem.

  3. I like it because of the image it immediately creates of those little cups next to the cash register: give a penny, take a penny.
